Our electronics might not be cleaner than roach motels.
The good news is that washing down your devices with a moist cloth and mild antibacterial hand soap is an easy way to keep them clean. Make sure the cloth isn’t moist and only use a small amount of soap. You can also clean your electronics using antibacterial hand wipes. The amount of grime that comes off your equipment will astound – and disgust – you.
# 2 Drinking or eating near your electronics is a big NO!
You may think this is obvious advice, but consider how many times you’ve eaten supper with your laptop on your lap or worked at a desk with a glass of water right next to your keyboard.
Even if you haven’t had a food catastrophe, chances are you know someone who has fried a keyboard or cell phone after knocking over a beverage. Keeping liquids away from your electronics may seem inconvenient at first, but it will pay off in the long term. Additionally, eating away from your computer keeps crumbs off your keyboard. Crumbs can clog up keys and potentially cause harm over time.
# 3 Off-limits for children and pets
If you’ve ever had a puppy, you’ve probably heard horror stories of a chewed-up laptop or smartphone cord. Worse, some puppies will gnaw on cell phones, laptops, and iPods directly. Children can also be quite damaging when it comes to technology.
While iPhones are fantastic for entertaining children, it only takes a split second for a child to hurl or drop the phone, breaking the screen into a million pieces. If you do decide to let your child play with your phone, invest in a protective case to prevent it from breaking if it falls out of your child’s grasp. Never underestimate how quickly a puppy may snare your phone or gnaw through a laptop connection. Never leave your electronics unattended around puppies.
